It Looks LIke We Made It!

We are finally here in sunny Spain. It was a bit of a bumpy ride as we had to deal with a 24 hour delay on our flight to London, a plane load of inebriated Liverpool football club supporters on the way to Madrid, no luggage trolleys at the Madrid train station and then discovering we no longer had a car rental in Alicante due to the delays. We must have looked quite a sight dragging six large suitcases and four carry on cases while only having had a few hours sleep. Thanks to a kind woman named Mercedes, who assisted us in Madrid, we eventually managed to get to our destination.
It has however been great to see my in-laws. My husband’s brother was visiting from the UK as well. We hadn´t seen him for quite some time so it was a wonderful reunion.
We have been enjoying the sun, eating some fabulous Spanish food and looking for a place to live. Right now we are staying at a lovely resort near Cartagena, relaxing and learning about the culture. All things good never come easy.

We have been experiencing a phenomenal fall here on the west coast of Canada. There seems to be no end to the sunshine, and I have been making the most of it. Since I have cut my hours down to half time at work, it means more beach reading time for me!
A fun event every year for me is The Mennonite Fair. I work for Mennonite Central Committee in their Employment Services Division and volunteer at the annual fall fair which is a huge fund raiser for MCC. I love the atmosphere; everyone working hard toward the same goal with such compassion. It is the best example of team work I have ever encountered, and I’m grateful to be part of it.
And then there was the food! I stocked up on German baking to take home and lined up for a feast of vereniki (growing up we called them perogies but they are the same thing and soooo good) All a wonderful reminder of my German – Canadian childhood. I returned home with my many purchases, full and happy.
Next stop, a visit to my daughter on her island in the sun. It takes two ferries and a small boat to get me there but it’s worth it.
My daughter and I attended a excellent talk by Gabriola artist Sheila Norgate called “I never met a blank canvas I didn’t like”. It was enlightening and motivating for both of us. We chatted, barbequed a huge salmon, I watched her water her lovely garden, spent hours on the beach, chatted and ate some more. I always feel so well rested after spending a few days with my daughter on Mudge Island.
I am so lucky to be able to enjoy this sunshine, work for a great organization and spend time with my daughter in such a picturesque setting. How is your September so far?
The Lion and Lamb Theory
Posted April 1, 2013
on:March came in like a lion this year; cold, rainy, windy and just plain ugly. While everyone around me complained, I reminded them that this was good, as it was a sure thing we would be blessed with nice weather at the end of March. Sure enough, we have had an amazing week of lovely warm sunny weather here on the west coast of Canada. This Easter weekend I have been for a walk on the beach three days in a row. So glad the theory works, every time.
Having four days off is wonderful, but to have four sunny days off on the “wet coast” is almost unheard of. It has been lovely. Everyone left work on Thursday in a happy mood. A satisfied client brought us orchids and a colleague provided Easter treats.
Besides going for walks on the beach, I have been meeting friends for tea and having coffee with hubby at various special places around town. Also enjoying the multitude of blooming daffodils and cherry trees in our neighborhood.
I have always loved the Easter season and the spirit of hope it evokes. Spring flowers are my favourite.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, however you celebrated it.
May your days be filled with much sunshine, flowers and hope.
You are my sunshine!

You’ll never know, dear, How much I love you.
Please don’t take my sunshine away.
