A number of my writer friends have joined this wonderful site, https://shepherd.com/ This is a way to promote books with a similar theme as well as your own. Also, a perfect way to look for good books to read. So it is great for readers and writers!

This is my page. I’m delighted with how it turned out. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

I am very impressed with this site. This is what they have to say:
When it comes to books, human recommendations are always better than algorithms.
6,000+ authors have shared five of their favorite books around a topic, theme, or mood. And we make it easy to find the books they recommend through a book you already love, an author you adore, or a Wikipedia topic that interests you. For example adventure, https://shepherd.com/bookshelf/adventure
Here’s more info from the site:
Authors pick their 5 favourite books around a topic, theme, or mood they are passionate about, along with why they recommend each of those books. Then, we feature the author and one of their books alongside that list forever. And we promote the author, their book, and their book list throughout our website and marketing channels.
The topic, theme, or mood you pick should be in the same area as your book. Then the readers who visit your book list will be equally interested in your book. And, by making book recommendations, you are showing them your voice/personality, which gets them more interested in you and your book.
It’s a fairly new site, since April 2021, and they are improving it all the time. I found them to be very professional and easy to work with.
Did I mention, it’s free for a writer to list their book? https://forauthors.shepherd.com/

I just returned from a working holiday in Canada. In between spending time with family and friends, I launched Amanda in France: Fire in the Cathedral. It was so wonderful to be able to do this in person again. I love visiting bookstores, libraries and schools, and introducing my latest book. The people you meet at these events are amazing. Of course they are, they’re readers, my favourite kind of people.
I did author events in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on the east coast of Canada, in Vancouver, BC on the west coast and in Medicine Hat and Calgary, Alberta. Everywhere I went, I met new and long-time Amanda fans of all ages. It was a lot of fun. Here are a few pictures.

When I got home I received this lovely message from someone who bought a copy of Amanda in France for her mom. “My Momma just phoned to say how much she’s loving Amanda and the Cathedral!!! She’ll be ordering more from Albany Books.”

We had a great turnout at Unlimited Characters Bookstore in Medicine Hat.

While I was at Indigo/Chapters in Charlottetown PEI, a woman stopped by and bought 4 books. She was a long-time friend of a cousin from Calgary, Alberta. These are the amazing things that happen on book tours.
Thank you to everyone who attended the book presentations and signings. You make my job fun!
Next time, less of me and more fabulous scenery.

I am a guest today over at Jacqui Murray’s amazing blog, WordDreams. I answer her question, How do you create readers for life? See what I have to say.
One of my summer reading discoveries is Darlene Foster’s six-volume Amanda series. I’m a teacher-author so I’m always eager to find fresh books that my K-8 students will love. When I came across Darlene on her blog, Darlene Foster’s Blog, I have to admit, I was really excited. I’d never found a children’s travelogue series that would appeal to kids the same way fiction does. This series does. In it, kids travel all over the world, to those names that excite every adult–Amanda on the Danube, Amanda in Arabia, Amanda in Alberta, as well as three more fun world locations.
I asked Darlene if she would mind doing an interview for my blog–just one question. That’s all I had:
How do you create readers for life?
Because that’s what these books have the power to do–turn kids into readers. Here’s her answer:

One of the joys of writing is hearing from readers and seeing pictures of them with my books. I am pleased to have many faithful followers of the Amanda Travels series. Some have been reading about Amanda’s travels since I published the very first book, eight years ago. Here are a few pictures of my books in the hands of young readers.

This avid reader bought a set of books for herself and for her friend, with her own money!

This young reader has been an Amanda fan from the start.

And she is still reading the books in Trinidad!

Happy to get another Amanda book for her birthday.

A keen fan reading to her great-great-grandmother.
I also love hearing from those who have read my books. Here is a lovely email from a young reader.
Hi, Darlene, my name is Kynnlei and Marion is my auntie. She gave me three of your books and they are some of my favourite books. Please keep writing and she will keep buying. We give you encouragement to do what you are passionate about.
And this from a young man being homeschooled who read two of my books for his reading assignments.
Dear Darlene:
I am doing a book report on your book titled, “Amanda in Alberta”. I liked it! My favourite part is the horse ride in chapter 6. I have been to many of these places, mostly with my dad in the semi truck. Did you visit all of the places in your book? Can you make a book of “Amanda in Iceland”? I think that would be awesome! Thank you for writing these amazing books!
Sincerely; Kegan
I understand he got very good marks on his assignments.
This is why I am so passionate about writing for kids!
If you have a picture of you or someone reading one of my books, please send it to me as I love to collect them.
