Thursday Doors: Cordoba, Spain

Posted on: March 14, 2024

Welcome to Thursday Doors! Looking through my pictures of travels around Spain, I found many wonderful doors in the fascinating city of Cordoba. I love this city with its interesting mix of Roman, Moorish, Christian and Jewish history, colourful patios and unique architecture.

Just walking around the streets I found many marvellous doors.

Isn’t this just delightful?

I believe this was in the Jewish quarter.

This is more of a gate than a door, but a great view into an outdoor patio.

One of many doors to the Mezquita, a unique Mosque-Cathedral. It is an important Islamic building in Spain and also a working Roman Catholic Church. Can you see the combo of Moorish and Christian influence?

Another door to the Mezquita.

A door inside the Mezquita

A door from the inside with obvious Moorish designs around it.

A side entrance to the Mezquita.

Do you think there are enough locks on this door?

Cordoba is a most interesting Spanish city and an example of three major religions living together peacefully. If you get a chance, I would recommend you visit.

If you wish to see more pictures of Cordoba I wrote about it here, here, and here

This is a weekly challenge created by Dan Antion for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favourite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. Truly fabulous selection

These are fantastic doors, Darlene. The last door with the locks on it looks mysterious. Each door looks grander than the other. It’s hard to pick a favourite.

I’m so pleased you loved these doors as much as I do. I agree, I could never pick a favourite. That last one needs to show up in a novel I think!

I love strong, wooden doors and there’s something very powerful about these doors. Yes!!! That last door does meet all the necessary conditions to be the cover of a mystery book. 🙂

All awesome photos Darlene! Some amazing doors!

Thanks, Darlene. What a brilliant collection of doorways and doors! We too loved Cordoba, and so many other beautiful places in Spain. Lovely memories…

We are spoiled for choice here in Spain. And I haven’t visited all the places yet. Glad I brought back some good memories for you, Joy. xo

Such interesting doors, especially that one with all the locks on it!

Thanks, Stevie. I really like that one too.

So many beautiful shots, Darlene. I “ohhed” out loud when I came to picture of the door with the coloured squares. Those squares are the same as stickers I have for my travel scrapbook. Clearly it was real-life inspiration for the sticker company!

I’m so glad you like this collection of doors, Lisa. What a great coincidence about the squares! I love when that happens.

Hi Darlene, a selection of beautiful and historic doors.

Thanks, Robbie. The world is full of interesting doors. xo

Absolutely gorgeous doors!

Thanks, Anne! They are pretty amazing.

We have only been to Spain once, and just to Barcelona and the Costa Brava – we have added it to our return list within the next few years and this is a great reason why!

You would love the rest of Spain as well. It is a large and varied country with so much to do and see. (and the food is amazing!)

Some wonderful images there, Darlene. Loved the one with the tall columns!

I stumbled upon that one on my way to an evening performance. Glad I stopped to take a photo.

It’s got fabulous tones…

You really do have some stunning doors there.

Thanks, Esther. My travelling companions wonder at me stopping to capture doors all the time. But I’m so glad I do.

Doors are everywhere–portals to the mystery inside. These are exotic. You’ll never run out of material, Darlene!

I agree, so many doors, so little time to write about them!! Thanks. Marian.

Goregous doors, Darlene 🙂

Thanks, Denise. Each one could have a story.

They sure could!

We just don’t have doors like these in the US.

Or in Canada. But some of these are very old, like in the 1300s, before North America was discovered by the Europeans!

These are wonderful doors, Darlene. My two favorites are the one you correctly described as delightful, and the one above it. I also like the one with the flower pots above the door and the one with metal grates. I guess it’s fair to say, I couldn’t choose a favorite.

I’m pleased you liked my selection of doors. Thanks so much for putting this challenge together. It is so great to go through my photos and discover door pictures I had forgotten about. Better to share them here than have them hidden in a file on my computer. (oh for the days of photo albums, but then we would be limited as to who would see them)

You have the most wonderful doors to enter, Darlene. A marvelous collection.

It’s amazing what you find when you search through your photos. I need to do this more often.

Wow! These are amazing. Thank you for sharing these doors!

Thanks, Jan. So glad you like them!

Breathtaking!

I Know. Each door and doorframe is a work of art!

Great Mesquita doors!

I know and everyone is different. I loved visiting that amazing site.

So beautiful and such an important spiritual site.

Very much so. I spent a lot of time inside and could have spent more time. I must return.

It’s Thursday already?! Love all your doors.

I know what you mean! Thursdays seem to come around quicker and quicker. Glad you liked the doors!

Great doors, Darlene. Thanks for sharing them.

I love sharing door pictures. Most of them come with good memories of past adventures.

Love that one with the angels guarding it, Darlene. Cordoba is so full of character and has some tremendous doors.

Cordoba certainly is an amazing place. I have to admit that door with the angels surrounding it is a favourite of mine too.

Darlene, you make me want to catch a flight straight away and explore Cordoba! The doors here look stunning and wow, the Mezquita has an incredible selection of them with an intoxicating moorish / Christian feel!

Let me know if you do and I’ll meet you there!! Cordoba is a very unique and interesting place. You would just love it.

Those are great door photos. I have yet to visit Spain. Spain certainly has a lot of interesting history.

If you love history, you would enjoy Spain. What I like is that the history is preserved so we can all enjoy it.

Once again, you’ve given us a splendid display of doors!

Thanks, Liz. Pleased you enjoyed these doors.

You’re welcome, Darlene.

So many wonderful doors! Spain awaits ~ I haven’t been there!

You would enjoy it. So much history, well preserved.

Darlene you so many doors in Spain. These are so historic doors.Anita

Thanks, Anita. Spain keeps it’s historical buildings and doors.

I’m amazed by the wide variety of beautiful doors but, as you indicated, the different religious practices likely inspired the various styles.

Each culture left its mark. What impresses me is that the conquerors didn’t always destroy the buildings of the old culture but incorporated them into theirs. The Mezquita is a fine example of this.

That’s an excellent point about not destroying the other cultural structures.

A magnificent cultural variety

I really enjoyed these doors, especially the last one with all the locks. Thanks, Darlene!

These were fun doors, almost fairy tale like. Pleased you enjoyed them too.

Yes, they were! 😀

Hi Darlene, you’ve shared such gorgeous doors. I’d love to visit! Maybe someday! 🙂 💞

Thanks, Lauren. You would enjoy it!. Glad you liked the selection of doors.

Cordoba is a fascinating city to visit…one day there was not enough. I’m always intrigued by the doors too. One thing you can say is they don’t make them like they used to.

Exactly! We had three days there and still didn’t see everything!

Hi, Darlene – These doors all sing out ‘Spain’ loud and clear. Just beautiful!

Thanks! They are very Spanish doors. We once looked at a place for sale in a new development that used rescued old doors as part of the structure. I love that these sturdy old doors are reused and the history continues.

They know how to do a good door in Spain! There are some nice old ones in our old cities and towns here too.
I don’t think you’ll ever run out of doors in Spain!

Thanks so much. Europe does have wonderful old doors. I’m so glad they are still around to view.

A wonderful post beautiful photos of doors, it’s not unlike the old city part of Seville with, Jewish, Morish and christian buildings and doors, I have done Seville, Cordoba is on my list ,💜

Thanks, Willow. I have not been to Seville yet but was very impressed with Cordoba as you can see.

Yes indeed it looks amazing 💜💜

Beautiful doors, Darlene. I recognize some of them.

I’m sure you do. Thanks, Natalie!!

I love the door with many, many locks!

Me too. There must be a story there!!

Stunning, Darlene – there’s something very special about those Spanish-style doors

Thanks, Toni! I just love them!! They are so big because years ago the horse and buggy went through the doors as well.

I’m looking forward to visiting Cordoba this fall and finding some of these doors! The architecture looks beautiful.

You will love Cordoba and its amazing architecture.

these are stunning photos of doors.❤️

Thanks so much for visiting my blog and commenting!!

Love all the doors and notice many have arches. Great photos that make we want to visit Cordoba.

Thanks, Nancy! I love the arches too. I hope you gt to Cordoba one day.

Thanks for sharing these most fabulous Spanish doors with us Darlene. The architecture alone is stunning. ❤

Thanks, Debby. I never tire of it.

I totally understand why. 🙂

In the third phot, the way the sunlight hits the entrance…beautiful.

Thanks, Mark. Glad you like that one!

Each one is stunning. I love the courtyard gate and the one with the fresco on the wall- beautiful.

Thanks, Jacquie. I love that courtyard gate as well. I enjoy taking pictures through decorative gates! Have a wonderful day as I believe it’s your birthday! 💖
