Thursday Doors: Travels in Spain

Posted on: March 1, 2024

When we get visitors from North America, we enjoy showing them around Spain. I thought I would share a few doors and windows we encountered during these travels.

We found this fabulous door in Barcelona.

Discovered this door at Castle Biar, between Alicante and Valencia on the Route of the Castles of Vinalopó. (Note: Dot photo bombing)

Castle Biar was built in the 12th century. Dot obviously loves castles.

An old windmill at La Pagan, restored.

A beautiful home in Cartagena

Another from Cartagena

The architecture in Cartagena is amazing.

Found on a side street in Cordoba

I love the detail on the frame.

Also found in Cordoba.

At the Virgin de la Esperanza Sanctuary

Another find in Barcelona

A bronze door of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona with scriptures from the New Testament.

Thursday Doors is a weekly feature allowing door lovers to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos from around the world. It’s hosted by Dan Antion.  Feel free to join in on the fun by creating your own Thursday Doors post each week and then sharing your link in the comments on Dan’s post

Many memorable doors, Darlene!

Great variety of doors, Darlene, and it was interesting to note we have photos of the Barcelona ones. One day soon we hope to travel further south in Spain.

Please let me know and we can meet. That would be so awesome.

Yes, very awesome! We are thinking next winter.

A characterful door tour

Oh my goodness, Darlene, all of these buildings are amazing. The architecture, the details and the doors.

Thanks, Dan. Glad you liked them.

Hi Darlene, these are great doors, Dot and all. I particularly like the last one.

That last one is very special.

There are some gorgeous doors here!

Thanks, Esther. Spain does do doors well, especially the old ones.

These doors seem so inviting. I’d love to visit this part of the world, Darlene!

You would love it, Marian. The doors are inviting aren’t they.

There’s not a door there I wouldn’t be proud to have here at my house, to greet visitors.

They are pretty great, aren’t thye.

I love the decorative notes of Spanish architecture!

You always find the best doors! Is Spain known for its doors?

Thanks, Liz. There are great doors all over the world if you keep an eye out for them. I just seem to have found some great ones in Spain. In fact, I was surprised when I went through my pictures and found so many!

You’re welcome, Darlene.

Your collections are great, Darlene! I love Spanish architecture, especially the doors and windows. When we visited Barcelona, I foolishly left my camera behind! Some of the Italian buildings are lovely too. xx

Thanks, Joy. The first time I went to Barcelona, my camera was stolen. Thankfully Paul had his camera and we still got some great pictures. Of course now we take pictures with our phones.

Great little gallery of images.

Thank you for stopping in and commenting.

So many fabulous doors, Darlene. I really like old doors. They look like they’re straight out of a fantasy novel! Lol. Super fun photos, my friend. ❤

So pleased you enjoyed the doors. I also feel like they are out of a fantasy novel. But then great minds…

Great doors. Love those scale figures too. ; ) (Always a joke in our family that loves architecture)

LOL! Thanks, Rebecca.

Beautiful doors and buildings, Darlene. They make visitors instantly aware that they are not in North America any more! 😀

Oh yes. For me, the older the better!

Darlene, you always have a welcome door for your visitors. So many wonderful memories held in these photos.

Thanks, Rebecca. These doors certainly do hold precious memories.

That first door in Cordoba is my favourite. Love the surrounding details.

That was quite a find! I went for a little wander near the hotel, down some small streets and there it was. I too love that one!

Wonderful selection Darlene

Windows and doors! Can’t go wrong. Loved your windmill and the Art Nouveau windows in Cartagena.

Thanks, Steve. I always think of Don Quixote when I see that windmill. Cartagena is a feast for the eyes with its many fabulous buildings.

These are so many doors in Spain. These are amazing images .Anita

A beautiful collection of doors, Darlene. Thank you.

So pleased you liked them. John. Thanks!

Wow! These photos are amazing. The architecture in Cartagena is fabulous! Thanks for sharing, Darlene.

Thanks, Jan. Delighted you enjoyed these doors. Cartagena is such a great place with amazing architecture.

These are gorgeous, Darlene – so many unique doors. I agree with Diana – some of them look like they’re straight out of a fantasy novel.

Thanks, Teri. We are spoiled here with fabulous doors, full of character as Derrick mentioned, and straight from a fantasy novel as Diana mentioned.

I love the doors. And wish I could join one of your tours!!

I wish you could too. What fun we would have!!

The doors and the architecture are stunning. So many amazing buildings.

Thanks, Debra. I never tire of them.

The architecture in Spain is my favorite, Darlene. I’m sure your friend enjoyed the tour.

We had a great time and they loved the buildings of Spain.

Good to hear they had a great time. I love the architecture in Spain. California has a lot of Spanish influence in architecture.

Great selection of doors

Thanks! Glad you liked the ones I picked.

I like that old windmill, and also the sunshine in your photos. We’ve got persistent rain here.

The sunshine is wonderful in Spain, but today the wind is cold. But I shouldn’t complain.

I love the architecture, Darlene, and you are making some great memories! Wonderful photos!

Thanks, Lauren. Glad you enjoyed the photos.

Absolutely wonderful, Darlene! Thank you!

Beautiful doors and windmill, Darlene. Thank you for sharing them.

Pleased you enjoyed the pictures, Natalie.

These are such interesting and beautiful doors. We’re thinking about travelling to Spain (and Portugal) this fall and have Cordoba on our itinerary. I’ll see if we can find that door!

You will love Cordoba. I plan to write another post on it as it has many amazing doors.

Words I love to hear! Looking forward to it!

always enjoy checking out door – when I travel and at home. Oh look an orange door on my walk home.

There is something about doors!! Thanks for commenting.

Such a beautiful array of doors….love them!! The windmill caught my eye…so different than what I expected. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks, Kirt. I call them Don Quixote windmills!

love the variety of all of your chosen Doors, Darlene❣️

Wow awesome darlene! So cool to find so many beautiful doors!

If I look around, I always find cool doors here in Spain. Thanks, Carol Anne.

What stunning doors, Darlene!

Darlene, lovely to join you on this tour of doors! Magnificent ones opening into equally amazing buildings. We might be coming to Barcelona in September so I’ll definitely have to check out this one from Gaudi!

There are many fabulous doors by Gaudi in Barcelona! You will love it there.
