It’s 2023, Time To Set New Goals

Posted on: January 3, 2023

“Marilla, isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”

LM Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

That is how I always feel on New Year’s Day. A new year with no mistakes yet! I am always so excited to make a list of goals, not all of them new, some are brought over from the year before as they didn’t get met. And that’s OK. Some have been on the list for a few years already. Things happen when they are supposed to.

Here is my list for 2023

  1. Read Mom’s five-year diary by reading one page a day. It will be great to learn more about Mom as a teenager.

2. Finish Amanda in Scotland: The Standing Stones, book number ten in the Amanda Travels series.

3. Publish my collection of short stories based on my childhood growing up on the Canadian prairies.

4. Learn how to self-publish

5. Return to Canada and attend a family reunion

6. Create a newsletter.

7. Clean up and sort out my office.

8. Clean up my computer and tablet

9. Read and write more poetry

10. Eat out more often. Since the pandemic, we have gotten out of the habit and I’m getting tired of cooking all the time.

11. Read 48 books. I’m going to try for this reading goal again.

12. Work on reducing my TBR pile on my bookshelves and on my Kindle

13. Maintain my health; reduce my sugar intake

14. Visit Ireland

15. Continue marketing my books and looking for new ways to market

That should keep me busy enough so I don’t get bored.

My words for 2023 are Savour the Moment

Wishing everyone a super 2023: May many of your dreams come true!

They look like super goals. Best wishes in accomplishing them, Darlene.

Thank you. They are doable. xo

That’s a very impressive list of goals, Darlene! All the best for accomplishing them!!

We’ll give it our best shot. Thanks, Liz.

You’re welcome, Darlene.

I can’t wait to read Amanda in Scotland. There is so much in that country!

I guess I better write it then!!

I bet the research visits will be fun!

Great goals Darlene! Looking forward to the next Amanda!

Thanks, Irene. I better get on it.

There’s much to comment on here, but I’ll zero in on just one: your mother’s diary, which equates in vintage to my aunt’s teenage diary. I began 2022 imagining I would build a book from just that. As it turned out, snippets of her diary are just a small part of My Checkered Life.

I look forward to Amanda in Scotland, Darlene! 🙂

I thought of your Aunt Ruthie’s diary when I was given my mom’s. I’m sure there will be some great material in this one too.

That is a very inspirational list. You definitely shouldn’t get bored! Wishing you a happy and healthy year ahead!

Thank you, Donna. I love starting the year with goals to work toward.

Great goals, Darlene – I’m intrigued by your mother’s diary. I would have a hard time reading just one page a day. We share a goal for 2023 – less sugar! Here’s to a productive and healthy new year 🙂

I know. One page a day might be hard but we’ll see how I do. It will be great to think, that’s what mom was doing and thinking on this day 80 years ago.

Yes, it’s a wonderful idea. I’d be so curious I might not be able to help myself. How nice that you have her journal 🙂

Those are great goals, Darlene. I admire how many you have. As we’re both writers, I share some of the same goals. It’s going to be a great year!!

Thanks, Debra! It is going to be a good year.

Exciting list, Darlene, and I hope you get to tick them all off this year. I’m looking forward to those short stories. And what a treasure that diary is!

The diary is indeed a treasure. January 2, 1943 entry. “Broke my New Year’s resolution.” I think I will be getting a laugh out of my 14-year-old mother’s scribbles.

Those look doable and fun. Ireland trop research for an Amanda book?

They are doable. Ireland, a possible research trip? You never know.

Sounds lovely either way. 🙂 🍀

A great to-do list, Darlene you certainly won’t be bored I write a daily diary and have done for years I hope mine will be read like you are looking forward to reading your mothers Happy New Year xx

I too have boxes full of journals I’ve kept over the years. Will my kids read them, not sure?

Happy New Year! It’s nice to have new goals, I’m right behind you. 🙂

It’s such a great way to start the year! Good luck with compiling yours too.

That’s a list! Here’s to a lot of ticks!

Thanks so much, Geoff.

Darlene, I love the quote and a perfect one for the start of the New Year! Your first goal is a precious one and what a special diary to savour through the year. Enjoy working towards all your goals, books and travels – a busy but enjoyable year ahead!

Thanks, Annika. Always good to have things to look forward to. And I love lists. xo

What a wonderful set of goals. I hope everyone of them is fulfilled.

Thanks, Bernadette. I have a whole year to make it happen. xo

Such an interesting list of goals! For me, there are some truly unique things ahead, some not sharable yet, but my overall goal is to support all of my friends and family in their endeavors while staying creatively stimulated with my own! Happy New Year!

You will have no trouble with that as you are already very good at supporting others. I wish you all the best with any new endeavours! Can’t wait to hear all about them. Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year! It is always good to have a list of goals for the New Year…and to keep them in plain sight. 🙂 Wishing you all the best in the coming year.

I agree, Linda. Telling the world about them also adds to accountability. Happy New Year to you as well, Linda!

Thank you for sharing your list! It is inspiring!

That’s a great list, Darlene, and it sounds manageable! Most of the things on there actually seem fun. Wishing you much luck this year with all your goals, even the ones that you don’t quite finish. Happy New Year!

Thanks, Diane. Fun is important at this stage. All the best for a productive and fun 2023!

Hi Darlene! I am also fascinated by the new year, having no mistakes yet.

Thank you. Have a great year ahead.

Wow! This is an exciting list of goals, Darlene. You go, girl!

Thanks for your encouragement, Jennie.

A pleasure, Darlene!

All the best with completing your goals for 2023. It’s neat that your mom kept her diary from when she was a teenager. That should be an interesting read!

It has been interesting so far. A great insight into who my mom was. I love it!

Hope you complete all your goals, Darlene.

Thanks, Stevie. Something to work toward.

Fabulous list of goals! Oo, Amanda in Scotland, that sounds fun!

Thanks, Priscilla. Scotland will be fun!

I’d love to visit Ireland (and all the other countries you’ve seen, lol), but will settle for reading Amanda’s take on the country. 🙂

Nothing wrong with armchair travel. One of the reasons I started to write the series, so others can travel to these places without leaving home. xo

That list will keep you busy, Darlene. I wish you all the best in your goals. Happy New Year!

Thank you so much, Lauren. And all the best for you in 2023!!

Hi Darlene, a good set of goals. I learned to self publish at the end of last year and it is very empowering.

I’m sure it is. Right now I find it intimidating!

An impressive list of goals, which I’m sure you’re capable of achieving.

Thank you, Ruth. That is so kind of you. xo

Wow what a bold list of goals Darlene and that’s incredible. All the best 🔥😍😍😍

Happy New Year, Darlene. I wish you success with your goals.

Thank you, Norah. All the best for a wonderful 2023.

Thank you, Darlene. 🙂

Your 2023 goals are impressive. The most difficult for me would be to clean up my computer. Good luck with all your goals and your reading list. ❤

That is a difficult one and has been on the list for a couple of years. I just need to do it!

Hi, Darlene. Wow! You have a high level list there, good for you!
I would like to travel but I figure I’m saving money and can buy books to read about others people’s experiences – fact or fiction.
As for diaries, my mum wrote for parts of years, and I destroyed my own so no one else could read them. 🙂 Let the illusion live on.
Have a super productive and creative years, Darlene!

please forgive my typos!

I am enjoying reading my mom’s diary. Funny the words that were used at that time. But girls are always girls no matter what. I have journals that my kids may or may not enjoy reading some day!

That’s quite a big list Darlene. You will be quite busy, let alone jumping into self-publishing. But the fun will be reading your mom’s diary! Happy 2023! ❤

Thanks, Debby. I am enjoying her diary already.

Love your goals, Darlene – can’t wait to read the next Amanda book.

Thanks, Toni. Working on it as we speak.

A lovely ‘To do’ list. I hope you can achieve all or most of them, at least. 4,11, 12, 13, and 15 are my goals, too, for the year.
Btw, I just started reading Amanda in Arabia, and I’m enjoying it . I hope to read the rest in the series, too. All the best for the new book. Your mom’s diary sounds exciting.

Thank you! I am working on some of them as we speak. By writing them down, I’m more motivated to make them happen. I’m delighted you are reading Amanda and her travels. Enjoy!
