I am delighted with this review of Amanda in France: Fire in the Cathedral over at Bonnie Reads and Writes. Included is an interview where you just might learn something new about me. We also talk about including tough topics in books for young people. Check it out!

Self-Published Saturday is my effort to help Self-Published and Indie authors promote their books. Today I’m reviewing Amanda in France: Fire in the Cathedral by Darlene Foster. This is an indie book published by Central Avenue Publishing, an independent publisher. Darlene also agreed to do a Q&A, and her delightful answers are below.
BOOK DESCRIPTION

Amanda explores the exciting streets of Paris, the fabulous Palace of Versailles and the gardens of the painter Claude Monet, while being drawn into the mystery surrounding the destructive fire at Notre Dame cathedral.
Amanda is in love! With Paris – the city of love. She’s in awe of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, and Notre Dame Cathedral. While there, she gets to work as a volunteer and stay in a famous book store, along with her bestie, Leah, and Leah’s eccentric Aunt Jenny. A dream come true for a book…

HI Darlene, a lovely review and interview. I was interested in your comment that Amanda would never visit somewhere you hadn’t been yourself. I have also found it is easier to write about places you have been to, but research (a lot of it) does help to close the gap).

I so agree and I do tons of research. What I meant was she doesn’t get to visit a country until I do (for selfish reasons). I don’t actually visit all the sites she does in every book. I hope through my research, the reader cannot tell which sites I have been to and which I haven’t. I find YouTube videos very helpful and I’ve been on some HeyGo tours which are excellent. Glad you enjoyed the interview.

What a lovely review of your latest book. I thoroughly enjoyed the Q&As. My dad was a dairy farmer and I never learned how to milk a cow either! I like that your love of travelling has provided much inspiration for your writing.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I always felt like I was a failure as a farmer’s daughter. So pleased you enjoyed the interview.

Congratulations, Darlene! Amanda reminds us that adventures are all around us.

Exactly. When I was a young girl, we had an old abandoned car on our farm. (I think it was already there when we bought the place). My aunt and I would sit in that car and pretend we were travelling the world. Adventures are all around us if we are open to them!

I loved writing this book as I enjoyed France so much. It was sad to write about the fire but it added some reality to a work of fiction.

What a wonderful setting for Amanda’s latest adventure, Darlene. The fire, although awful, is perfect for building tension and mystery. And I loved the interview, including your thoughts on book marketing.
