Cover Reveal – Where is Amanda Going Next?

Posted on: September 19, 2020

Many readers have been asking where Amanda will have her next adventure. Here are a few hints, see if you can guess.

  1. It is an archipelago in the Mediterranean.
  2. It has a long and colourful history.
  3. It has connections to St. Paul.
  4. It makes you think of Knights, Crosses and Falcons
  5. Popeye was filmed there.

Here are a couple of pictures that might give you another clue.

Did you guess where it is?

Drum roll…

I am so excited to share the fabulous cover designed by my amazing publisher, Michelle Halket of Central Avenue Publishing.

Amanda in Malta: The Sleeping Lady

Amanda receives a postcard from her best friend, Leah, and is surprised to learn that she is in Malta with her aunt. Reading between the lines, she senses Leah is in trouble. Desperate to help her, Amanda travels to Malta with her classmate Caleb and his parents.

Amanda is intrigued by this exotic island in the middle of the Mediterranean, full of colourful history, sun-drenched limestone fortresses, stunning beaches and fascinating birds. But…who is killing the protected birds? Who stole a priceless artifact from the museum? And why is Leah acting so strange? She couldn’t possibly be involved in these illegal activities, or could she?

Join Amanda and her friends as they visit ancient temples, an exciting falconry and the enchanting Popeye Village, as they try to get to the bottom of the mystery of the Sleeping Lady.

Book 8 in the exciting Amanda Travels series will be released in May 2021 and is available for preorder on all Amazon and Indigo sites

Did you know that Amanda is a Latin female name meaning “deserving to be loved,” “worthy of love,” or “loved very much by everyone.”? (From wikipedia)

Very fitting, don’t you think?

Congratulations on this book, Darlene! Malta–I was trying to guess. I didn’t know Malta was an archipelago. I better read your book!

You would so love it there as its history goes way back. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of your characters ended up there in their travels. I used to call Malta an island, which it is but I was reminded it is a country made up of a few islands, therefore an archipelago. We learn as we write!

This sounds wonderful – good clues too!

Ha ha, I remember the Popeye Village. We took our boys there. It was so hot that I thought I was going to pass out! Good luck with the launch, Darlene.

We were there in March so it was not so hot. But it was a fun place.

So excited for you and Amanda and readers everywhere!!!! Congrats!!!

Gorgeous cover, Darlene. Congratulations on your new book. Malta sounds like a fabulous setting!!

I just LOVE that cover!! Malta was a perfect place for Amanda to have an adventure.

I got it from the first clue, helps my family are from there 🙂

That’s right! I forgot that. 💗

Looking forward to reading it 🙂

Congratulations, Darlene, the cover is amazing.

Thanks, I’m very happy with it!!

I LOVE the cover! Congratulations!!

Super news! Congratulations! Can’t wait to read it!

Great. Have you been to Malta? I would be surprised if you haven’t.

Sounds like a very exciting adventure!

Congratulations, Darlene. I hope Amanda in Malta flies off the shelves next year.

Thanks, Mary! It seems a long time to wait but it will be here before I know it!

Woohoo! Malta! I love Malta. What a rich culture and heritage for an author to embrace. And nobody can do it better than you, Darlene. I know that Amanda is going to be thrilled. 🙂 ~Terri

Thanks, Terri. I just knew I had to have Amanda visit this amazing place when I visited. I do hope I did it justice!

I’m very excited–I got the country right from the clues! Congratulations on the latest Amanda adventure.

Well done you. Malta is such an amazing place!

You know how to make a blog post clickable. Ha! Actually, I was surprised to find Malta as your book “destination,” but after I saw the cover I believe you may have mentioned it earlier, unless I’m dreaming.

Congratulations on achieving another 2020 goal, Darlene!

Thanks. I may have mentioned it before in one of my interviews, Marian. Not many of the goals will be met this year but I´m pleased this one has. xo

So happy for the success of the series…a big fan, because I love how you mix creativity, imagination and cultural appreciation in your writing – for minds of all ages!

Thanks so much, John. May I quote you?

How exciting! I’ve seen you traveling and promoting books, but I didn’t see you busily writing this new book. Marvelous!

Thanks, Anne. I fit writing a new book in between the other things.

This is so exciting, Darlene!!

I am very excited about this book. It was so much fun to research and write.

Wonderful cover! Brings me back to my postage stamp collecting days as Malta had some beauties!

Now that you mention it, I believe that´s the first time I became familiar with Malta as well. Stamp collecting was very educational.

Love the cover and a big congrats on the book!!

My guess was Greece, and I love the cover! Congratulations Darlene. I look foward to reading Amanda’s next adventure!

Good guess! Glad you like the cover. xo

It sounds like a wonderful location to cast a character for a story. To be honest, as soon as you mentioned Popeye, my mind wandered to the movie and the many times I watched it. Two of my nephews, only young boys when the movie came out, must have watched it a 1,001 times. Since I spent a lot of time with them, I saw it, too. I also loved the film. Robin Williams was amazing in it. Now I want to see the movie again.

Malta was a perfect location. I liked the Popeye movie too and the set was a great place to spend an afternoon. Caleb, a character in the book, says he watched the movie over and over too. It was a fun chapter to write.

Congratulations on the book. It sounds wonderful. What a great way to teach geography and anthropology in such an interesting way. Love it and want to read it. Having my first childhood a little late. 😉

It is never too late to have a happy childhood!! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.

How exciting, Darlene. I had neighbours once who came from Malta. That fact may add a little more interest to my read. Congratulations and best wishes for many readers.

That is so cool. I found the people of Malta to be very nice. Thanks, Nora.

Our neighbours from Malta were very friendly.

Sounds wonderful, Darlene. It’s a part of the world I know little about. I think my grandson is old enough for your books now. Will it be available in paperback?

Thanks, Diana. It will be available in paperback. I think he will like this one. Caleb is in it and he’s a cool guy, also birds of prey! You can’t write about Malta and not have a Maltese Falcon in it, can you?

Sounds awesome. 🙂 I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Congratulations Darlene, what a great way to teach us about this great island. Gerlinde

Thanks so much, Gerlinde!

How fabulous, Darlene. I visited Malta on a cruise a couple of years ago – it was so beautiful to sail in past all those fortifications. So much history there. Looking forward to it. Toni x

The first time I saw Malta was on a cruise as well. It as like sailing into another time wasn´t it? We loved it so much, we went back a couple of years later for a week. Such an amazing place. I had to write about it.

Congrats, Darlene! Love the cover. I just finished Amanda in Alberta yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Thanks! So pleased you enjoyed reading about Amanda’s adventures in my home province. Medicine Hat is where I was born. Glad you like the cover of the next one. xo

What a wonderful setting, and the plot sounds great. Congratulations and good luck.

I love the new cover! Amanda sure gets to visit some interesting locales 🙂

So pleased you like the cover. My publisher never lets me down with her fabulous covers. Amanda loves interesting places! (as do I)

Darlene how exciting. Congratulations xx I love the cover. My mind was a blank as to where and then when the cover was revealed I was wow ok awesome. I havent been there but my housemate has. #SeniSal

You would love it there and when we can finally travel again, you might want to consider it. We visited Malta the first time when we were on a Mediterranean cruise. Loved it so much, we went back for a week a year later. Glad you like the cover.

Congratulations Darlene! Beautiful book cover. I was in Malta last June and loved it. #senisal

Thanks, Natalie! It is quite something, isn´t it.

I love it Darlene! It speaks of wonderment. And I love the font for your name. A fabulous cover and congrats on the newest edition now in Malta ❤

I´m so delighted that you like the cover. Thanks for your support and encouragement!

Just sayin’ Darlene ❤

Wonderful cover Darlene and look forward to showcasing in due course…hugsxx

Thanks, Sally. May seems quite long away but It will probably be here before we know it. Glad you like the cover. xo

It will Darlene and 2021 can’t come quick enough for me…hugsxx

Darlene, this is such exciting news – congratulations! I love that you chose Valletta for the cover. I guess that means that Amanda must have at least a few adventures there? With so much history on Malta, Gozo, and the other tiny islands that make up the country, I bet you had a challenging time narrowing down which spots to feature in your story.

It’s been four years since we’ve left Malta, and seeing Valletta on your lovely book cover makes me rather nostalgic.

Congratulations once again.

Thanks, Tricia. I thought of you while I was writing this book. It was you who first altered me to The Sleeping Lady. I think you will like this book and perhaps it will bring back some memories.

I almost got it 😊. Congratulations on your new book. Looking forward to reading it

I have never been but have heard good things! Lovely new cover, good luck with your new book Darlene.

I’m sure it is bound to be a true success story. Good luck!

Congrats, Darlene! Your books sound so wonderful. 🙂

Thanks so much for commenting.

Why set the story in Malta?looking forward to reading the book.

We visited Malta twice and loved it. I thought it would make a great setting for an adventure and maybe encourage people to visit themselves. I hope you enjoy the book.

This sounds exciting, Darlene–for both you and Amanda!

Wonderful! Amanda in Malta is sure to be an exciting adventure for us all!

Thanks, Bette. Malta is such an amazing place.
