Cakes ‘n’ Bakes and Books

I was invited to do a book reading and signing at a local coffee shop called Cakes ‘n’ Bakes near my home in Spain. It was a huge success. Many cups of coffee, tea, delicious treats and books were sold to happy customers. The children enjoyed the two readings and everyone had a fun time. A great way to spend an afternoon. I was pleased to see Amanda’s travel adventures in the hands of many new readers. There will be some Amanda books under the tree this Christmas as well. One grandmother said she was going to read the books she bought, then send them off to her grandchildren. Here are a few pictures of the day and two short videos of me reading, thanks to Maureen Moss.

Christine, the proprietor with her homemade mince tarts. So popular she had to make another batch mid-afternoon.
Thank you to everyone who attended in person and in spirit!
Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends and family.
I am incredibly thankful for all those who support my writing endeavours!

And they were so good. I had the lemon drizzle and it just melted in your mouth. There was a steady stream of people all afternoon as well. My favourite kind of event too.

Hi Darlene. That’s a cafe I would hang out in if I lived in that neck of the woods. Very cute and homey.
Good luck with your book! See you.

Everyone had an enjoyable time. I didn’t think you could improve on a brownie but they did!!

It looks like it was a successful and enjoyable afternoon, Darlene. After learning more about your home in Spain via the IL piece, it’s fun to see your environment, too. Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks, Tricia! It is such a great community we live in. What was wonderful was seeing people chatting and making new friends as well as people seeing friends they hadn’t seen for a long time! All because of my book event.

The culture of Spain is so COLORFUL, and you fit right in. Thanks for the photos and the two videos. Nothing like reading for a live audience! 🙂

I love reading to a live audience, especially children who are so attentive. Moments before they had been running around and noisy. When I started reading, they calmed right down.

That is one fabulous café and the perfect place to do a book signing. Do most Spanish children speak/read English well? Since you live in Spain, have you ever thought about translating some of the books — especially “Amanda in Spain.”

It was the perfect place. Most Spanish children learn English in school, as in many European countries. The people who came to my book reading were mostly English and many of the books purchased were going back to the UK for grandchildren living there. I sold out of Amanda in Spain as well as my bi-lingual book, Pig on Trial/Cerdito a juicio. I would love to have my books translated one day. Another dream to pursue.

I’ve always believed that if you don’t ask, you don’t get. The cake shop was only too happy to have me there and did a brisk business themselves. And, it was fun! (of course I didn’t sleep much the night before)
