2017 – How Did I Do?

Posted on: December 31, 2017

I am a very goal-oriented person and require goals to keep me on track. At the beginning of every year, I write down some goals as I believe writing them down cements them in my mind and helps me to meet them. As the year comes to a close, I like to look at the goals I set for myself and see how I did.

These are the 2017 goals I posted on my blog.

Prepare Amanda in New Mexico – Ghosts in the Wind for publication in the fall of 2017.

Amanda in New Mexico – Ghosts in the Wind was completed in January 2017 and after a number of edits and a few beta reads, it was published and launched October 1, 2017! This is book number six in the Amanda Travels series. I am so proud of this book. Thanks to everyone who assisted and supported me, bought this book and reviewed it. Launching a book is much like giving birth, hard work, painful but so worth it!

Return to Canada in October to promote the newest book

I returned to Canada in August and September for an awesome six-city book tour and wrote about it here. I moved the date up in order to accept an invitation to present a workshop for the Vancouver Public Library’s Writer’s Camp in mid-August. It was an incredible experience. The book tour was successful and I now have many more Amanda fans. I was also able to see many friends and family members while there.

Write Amanda in Holland, book seven of the series

I started Amanda in Holland-Missing in Action and have written over fifty percent of it. I would have liked to have been further along by now though.

Explore places in Spain we haven´t been to before.

I visited the amazing city of Cordoba with special out of town guests as well as other small towns and rural sites in Spain. Although I had visited Barcelona twice already, I explored parts I had not seen before. There is still so much to see and do in this fascinating country.

Return to England to visit family and friends

We travelled to York in January to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and visit some of Paul’s family. In October we travelled to Liverpool to meet friends. Both fascinating cities that reminded me of why I love England so much.

Go on at least one interesting trip outside of Spain

We spent a week in Malta and loved every minute. I wrote about that trip here.

Attend Pueblo Ingles or a similar program assisting Spanish-speaking individuals with their communication English

For some reason, this hasn’t worked out again this year but it is still on the list.

Create a new up-to-date website

My clever brother created a swanky new website for me. I just love it and can’t thank him enough. www.darlenefoster.ca

Organize the files on my computer

I started this but need to work harder to get things organized better.

Learn to use the new Samsung Tablet Santa delivered!

I use my tablet daily and take it with me when I travel. It was such a great gift. It didn’t take long to figure most of it out.

Keep in touch with family and friends, including friends on social media.

I make a concerted effort to keep in touch with everyone. Social media has been a huge help with this. I even met some of my social media friends in person this year. I wrote about it here.

Be kind, be strong and never stop being curious.

Yes, yes and yes.

In retrospect, 2017 was a very good year and I look forward to 2018.

I wish everyone who reads my blog a very Happy New Year!!

Darlene, you did very well! Almost all your plans became reality! I actually do the same thing. Rather than going to a noisy New Year’s party, I stay home, contemplate, make a list of things I want to concentrate on during the following year and check the list from last year. I’m always amazed that I actually get quite a few of the things on the list done. Wishing you and your family a wonderful, healthy, and happy New Year. May all your dreams and plans come true.

Thanks, Christa! I have been doing this for years and it just seems to work for me. I wish you all the best for 2018!!

I think you met your goals amiably! Can’t wait to read 2018’s goals! I didn’t really set any travel goals (that will come in a few years), but I did meet my goal of finishing the second in my trilogy. I amped up my Sunday Evening Art Gallery website, so that was a goal too. Let’s do it again in 2018!

Congratulations on completing the second book in your trilogy. Well done. All the best for 2018!!

Hi, I enjoyed reading your post but you might want to check the link for your website, it didn’t work for me.

Thanks for dropping in Eric. I have fixed the link to my website. http://www.darlenefoster.ca Thanks for letting me know. Happy New Year!

Way to go, Darlene! You did well, indeed. Happy New Year to you. 🎊

Happy New Year Jennie!!

Happy New Year! It was so refreshing to read that you had a great year.

Not everything goes according to plan but looking back it was a good year. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Wow, you had a superb year. Congrats! I’m goal oriented as well, but haven’t quite locked in all the writing goals yet. Something to ponder over the next 2 or 3 days before returning to the day job 🙂

In a couple of days, I will write out my goals for 2018. You had a superb year as well!! All the best for 2018!!

Well done on achieving so many of your goals. I always struggle with trying to work out what my goals are, but I’ve decided to make a real effort to think about them and write them down.
I hope you have a wonderful 2018.

Thanks, Barbara! I have no problem writing out a list of goals for each year. Then why can´t I write an outline for a story?? All the best for 2018!!

I knew you would meet your targets, Darlene; I wouldn’t expect anything else from you. I am very happy for you and I am confident you will meet your targets for 2018 too.
I like to improvise, which is a good thing the way we are living at the moment, but I have accomplished a few things this year that I’ve always wanted to do, i.e. take a year off to travel and visit places I have been wanting to see for a long time, like Fátima, Valencia and Alicante. Of course, meeting you in the latter was a very welcome and pleasurable surprise. Happy New Year to you, Paul and Dot. 🎉🎉🎉

Thanks! It is important to be flexible as life throws you curve balls sometimes. So pleased you have been able to take a year off and enjoy life, visiting all those special places. meeting you was definitely a highlight of my year!! Happy New Year to you and your family as well. ❤ ❤

Happy New Year, Darlene! Your new website looks great (fyi, the link is missing an e). 🙂

Happy New Year Marcia! Thanks so much for letting me know about the website. I have fixed it. Pretty bad when you can´t spell your own name! Glad you like the new website. ❤

Good work, Darlene! I don’t write down my goals, but I know exactly what I’ll be working on when I get back to work on Tuesday, so that’s good:) After having both kids and partners here for a week at Christmas, I know one of my goals, as always, will be to spend as much time with them as I can! Hope 2018 will be a lovely chapter for you.

Thanks, Jan. I know not everyone needs to write them down like I do. Spending time with our adult kids is so special!! Have a super 2018!! Happy writing.

Just wanted to write Happy 2018 to you, Darlene.

Happy New Year to you as well, Ruth!!

A wonderful and successful year, Darlene. Congratulations!

Super, Darlene! My crystal ball says you will complete all of your goals set for the new year too.

One of my goals for this past year has been 99% completed: Adjusting color and size while labeling nearly 4000 photos on my iPhone. They are saved on an external hard-drive which I will duplicate in another location. The labels include names and events which I can easily retrieve when I want to use them in blog posts and other writing. Soon I can safely delete them from my phone where they have been crowded for too long.

Happy New Year, Darlene!

That sounds like quite a project!! Good for you. Have a fabulous New Year and all the best for 2018!!

Happy new year, Darlene. I always enjoy reading your resolutions and your end of year report. I find it inspiring, especially the honesty with which you document the things you haven’t achieved as well as those you have. Congratulations on all your accomplishments in 2017 and I look forward to what you do in 2018.

Thanks so much Lorna! Happy New Year to you and your parents!!

[…] January I enjoy reading fellow blogger Darlene’s end of year report and her resolutions for the coming year.  It’s some years since I last posted my new […]

Fantastic year for you Darlene. Doesn’t it look great when it’s all laid out like this? I find it hard to acknowledge achievements. All I see is what’s still to do. I will take a leaf out of your book!

THere is always so much yet to do, but it is good to remind yourself what you have accomplished. There are always some nice little surprises too, some unplanned things show up. I love that! All the best for 2018 my friend. ❤

Good on your Darlene. I hope you had a beautiful holiday season. Happy New Year. 🙂

Thanks and Happy New Year to you as well, Debby.

Thanks Darlene. 🙂

Congrats on getting your latest book out. I love the theme of the series. You have lots of possibilities with that. And, I love the layout of your new website and blog. Kudos to your brother!

Thanks, Jackie! My brother did a fab job of my new website. He is amazing. So pleased you like it.

Your life is wonderful. You are an independent and successful person. We all need to make a plan for our lives.
