Christmas on the Costa Blanca

Posted on: December 25, 2015

Wishing all my wonderful readers a very Merry Christmas wherever you are!!

Christmas on the beach!

My article on Christmas in my part of Spain was recently published in Travel Thru History.

Torrevieja, Spain
by Darlene Foster

Christmas in Spain is a month long party consisting of numerous fiestas, parades, fireworks, brass bands, markets and food, lots of food. The first weekend in December is the official start of the Christmas season and it doesn´t take us long to get into the festive spirit. In our part of the Costa Blanca, it starts with a number of events celebrating Torrevieja´s Patronal Fiesta, dedicated to the patron saint of the city.

May your Christmas bring you much love, joy and peace!!

Merry Christmas , Darlene, from Rome. 🎄🙋

Merry Christmas back to you from Spain!! Enjoy.

What a colorful and joyful celebration in Spain. Gorgeous! Merry Christmas from unusually warm Switzerland!

Have a fabulous Swiss Christmas. Enjoy the mild weather.

That’s great, Darlene, congratulations on your article and your very interesting Christmas experience – quite a change from Canada, I imagine. Feliz Navidad!

Thanks so much. It is quite a change. Enjoy Christmas in Scotland!!

Somehow sand and Santa Claus seem incongruent to me even though we live twelve miles from the beach in Jacksonville, Florida right now where the temps are in the 80s F. (You’ll have to convert that to centigrade – sorry!)

Feliz Navidad!

That sounds nice and warm. 80 F is 26 C so it is warmer than here right now! I love how everyone goes to the beach on Christmas day here. It is so much fun. Enjoy tomorrow. >3

Merry Christmas and congratulations on your article!

Thanks Sue!! Merry Christmas back at you!

Darlene, what a wonderful article! I love the Christmas Belen – I don’t think I’ve seen that anywhere else. And is that paella in that huge skillet? Wow! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and New Year. All the best, Terri & James

Thanks so much Terri & James. Yes, it is paella! And I got a paella pan for Christmas (a smaller version). The Belans are amazing. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a terrific New Year!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and your as well! Thanks for visiting. ❤

Hi Darlene,

Wish you a great year ahead. So what might be that inspiring future you need to create for 2016?

Gotta tell ya Darlene, it looks like Christmas on the beach in Florida.
A whole week … all that fun, food and frolic. Hope 2016 brings you great success.
blessings ~ maxi

I´m sure Christmas is celebrated on beaches in many warm climates. It is just so new to me coming from a colder climate! hope 2016 brings you all the happiness you can handle!! ❤

Fascinating article, congratulations!

Thanks Marcia! Happy New Year!!

Don’t forget to join in the Cabalgata de Reyes on 5th January and to buy the Roscón de Reyes (special cake to celebrate Epiphany day): it comes with a surprise toy inside!!!. Enjoy! 🙂

I will make sure we get our own Roscon de Reyes this year! Happy New Year.

I love to see Santas on the beach, surrounded by palm trees 🙂

All the best for 2016, Darlene, from Andalucía.

One of the many joys of living in Spain! Happy New Year to you as well.

Very nice, Darlene. Happy New Year!

Thanks! Happy New Year to you and yours as well. ❤

Merry Christmas!

Thanks! I hope you and your family had a splendid Christmas and a very Happy New Year!!

What a busy and colourful time, you must need the rest of January to wind down and recoup your energy 😊 I can’t imagine spending Christmas Day on the beach, but it sounds like great fun with such a sense of community, friendship and sharing. I hope you enjoy this year’s celebrations just as much 🎄

It is a much different kind of busy than the mad rush of a North American Christmas which tended to be so stressful in the end. I was always sick by New Years. Not so now.

I know what you mean. Our family has scaled back considerably in recent years, it’s all so exhausting. Now we focus on our family get-togethers.

It sounds lovely, rather better than icy cold UK at the moment.

It will be cold in Canada as well. Writing out Christmas cards in the sun on my deck today!

The sight of Santa’s on the beach is so totally foreign and exotic to my Christmas experience. Thanks for sharing the article about all the festivities. The Nativity set sounds amazing.

The first year I saw the Santa´s on the beach I was amazed. So different from my Christmas in Canada, but oh so much fun. The Nativity scene is so wonderful too. xo

How lovely to learn of the Spanish Christmas traditions. I love the Christmas Belen, and the idea of gifts from the Magi. Happy Christmas.

Thanks. It is a nice way to celebrate Christmas. Have a Happy Christmas as well!

I love learning about how Christmas is celebrated around the world. I have long moved the main event to Epiphany myself, so I’d fit right in. It would be tough to get used to the warm weather, but I’d love everything else about it. Thanks so much for sharing – and congrats for being featured in Travel Thru History. And Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Madelyn. I didn´t take me long to get used to the warm weather!

I’ve never gotten used to warm weather (heat defensive) – so giving up winter would be a hardship for me. I look forward to it all summer. 🙂
